Originally from Aiken, South Carolina, Dr. Fowler is thrilled to be back home serving Emory University. After obtaining his BS in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Fowler attended The Florida State University earning an MS in Higher Education Administration. Upon graduation from FSU, he was appointed Director of Residence Life and Campus Housing at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, NC. Over the next seven years, Dr. Fowler also served as the Director of Student Activities and Summer Conferences, and Dean and Vice President of Student Affairs. In 1993, Dr. Fowler left Pfeiffer to pursue his Ph.D. at the University of Virginia. After leaving UVA, Dr. Fowler spent twelve years at Carnegie Mellon University as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs. As Associate Dean, Dr. Fowler also directed the offices of Student Life, International Education, and The Career Center. Dr. Fowler arrived at Emory in August of 2008 and implemented an outcome-based relationship-grounded approach to professional and career development. It is Dr. Fowler’s ambition that every Emory student acquires a keen understanding of his/her interests, abilities, values, and that they align with a well-articulated, obtainable, vision for life after graduation.
