Career Discovery Days
What is Emory Connects: Career Discovery Days?
First and second year Emory students of all colleges and schools are invited to participate in Emory Connects: Career Discovery Days! This program is designed to help Emory students learn what “it is really like” to work in a particular job, industry or organization by providing the opportunity to shadow a professional for a day. This will be a great way to explore various career options and build professional connections.
A shadowing experience may help you identify majors/careers to pursue, further confirm your interest in a particular career, or it may steer you into a new career direction completely. It may also help you to decide whether or not a career may be a good fit for you based on your interests, skills and abilities. Ultimately, this program will help you gain exposure to things you cannot learn online.
Students must attend a mandatory one hour orientation session and fill out an application to participate. Once you submit your application and you are matched with a host, you are required to participate in the program. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to the host site and to come prepared with questions. Once the matches have been made, you will be notified by an Emory representative of your host match and you will reach out to the host directly to schedule a mutually convenient time in which to conduct the shadowing experience. Students are expected to complete the shadowing experience anytime between November 2017 - January 2018.
You will receive an application to apply after you attend one of the four mandatory orientation sessions. Visit Handshake to see the dates & times for upcoming orientation sessions.
A variety of professionals will participate from the following industries: Arts & entertainment, healthcare, business, government, technology and other industries. A list will be shared with students at the mandatory orientation session.
Shadowing opportunities will be offered in Atlanta, GA; Los Angeles, CA; Washington, DC and New York, NY areas.
